Can Probiotics be Effective in Parkinson’s Disease?

Recently a review article by Claire Fleishman put forth the hypothesis that probiotics could play a role in attenuating the progression of Parkinson’s Disease. Pro-inflammatory cytokines and oxidation are at the root cause of why neurons degenerate in this disease. Probiotics may help lessen this effect.

Fleishman cites a number of studies supporting her hypothesis. The action steps could involve consumption of fermented foods rich in probiotics or certain probiotic supplements themselves. Check out her article for more information.
